I grew up four blocks away from the iconic Iowa State Fairgrounds. So the state fair has been a part of my life for a very long time. However, I recently moved to Indianola and have enjoyed attending the Warren County Fair.

And I’ve made a startling discovery.

The county fair has everything I like about the state fair, without all the stuff I don’t like!

The Warren County Fair has everything you could want in a fair experience. Agricultural exhibitions, fun displays and booths, delicious food, exciting shows and contests, and that intangible feeling that comes from experiencing America’s heartland. It also has a deep community feel that can’t be replicated at a large scale.

Do you know what it doesn’t have? Insanely large crowds, overpriced parking spots, and long lines.

The county fair is the state fair but in miniature. And sometimes, miniature is better.

I still love the Iowa State Fair and always will. But there’s something unique and special about the experience of the Warren County Fair.

Which fair do you like better?
