President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death on social media, calling his longtime ally, “great, even legendary”. In a statement made from the Oval Office, the president seemed visibly upset and called for an end to political violence.

Trump later announced that he will reward Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.

Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa lowered to half-staff.

Charlie Kirk is survived by his wife and two young children.

Charlie Kirk was such a great man. Trump is right when he said that Kirk represented the best of America. He was polite to all he met and yet firm in his commitment to truth, justice, and the American way. He was a devout Christian and from all I’ve seen a loving father to his two children. Praying for his family in this hard time and for our law enforcement as they hunt down Charlie’s killer.
