Indianola hosted dueling book readings last month. Local resident Steve Kirby weighs in on the significance of both events.

On August 16th there were two book reading events in Indianola. One was hosted at the Indianola Public Library by the Warren County Chapter of Moms for Liberty and advertised as “See You at the Library.” The other was hosted by Pageturners Bookstore at its store on the Indianola town square and advertised as “Banned Book Storytime.”

The focus of “See You at the Library” was on promoting traditional values and Christian books to children. In stark contrast, the focus of “Banned Book Storytime” was on promoting an LGBTQ+ agenda to children. By the way, did you know that the 1930’s classic about the gentle Spanish bull, “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf, “has been a go-to for teachers and parents looking for LGBT-friendly kids lit?”

Here is the link to the article I wrote about this:

Dr. Stephen M. Kirby is the author of six books and numerous articles about Islam. His latest book is “Islamic Doctrine versus the U.S. Constitution: The Dilemma for Muslim Public Officials.”  He is also the Chair for the Warren County Republicans.  The views expressed here are his own.
