Stephanie Erickson, the current mayor of Indianola, is running for the District 4 seat on the Warren County Board of Supervisors. She touts her experience as mayor and pledges to prioritize economic development, budget prioritization, land use and zoning if elected.
“What’s at stake in this election is the future of Warren County’s growth, economic development, and the quality of life for all residents,” said Stephanie Erickson. She also said that economic development will be a top priority for her on the board: “Economic growth is critical for Warren County’s future. By attracting new businesses and industries, we create jobs that raise household incomes and improve quality of life. Additionally, new businesses generate more tax revenue, which helps fund schools, infrastructure, and public services without raising taxes on residents.”
Furthermore, Erickson stated that growth needs to happen both in town and in the rural areas:
Our agricultural community also stands to benefit from economic growth. By attracting agribusinesses, we can support farmers with better resources, technology, and markets, which strengthens our most vital industry. As the county grows, investments in roads, broadband, and utilities will benefit both businesses and residents, making Warren County a more attractive place to live and work.To attract businesses, we need to offer incentive programs like tax incentives, grants, and low-interest loans. Additionally, infrastructure investment, workforce development partnerships with schools, and strong support for small businesses and entrepreneurs will be key to our success. Ultimately, we need to promote the unique quality of life Warren County offers to attract both businesses and families.
Also a top priority for the candidate is prioritizing the budget. While acknowledging the many items that compete for resources, Stephenie Erickson stated, “To manage these priorities, I’m proposing a zero-based budgeting approach, where we build the budget from the ground up each year. This approach ensures that each department justifies every dollar, which helps eliminate waste, cuts unnecessary spending, and provides maximum value to taxpayers.”
Erickson was elected mayor of Indianola, the county seat and largest city, in 2021. She believes that her experience in that position has equipped her to serve on the Warren County Board of Supervisors:
As mayor of Indianola, I lowered the city tax levy, keeping property taxes affordable while maintaining vital services. I’ve prioritized public safety by adding school resource officers, body cameras, a K-9 unit, and delivering infrastructure improvements, such as saving $5.2 million on the K Street project by adjusting our road design standards. These decisions reflect my commitment to fiscal responsibility and strategic growth. My experience has taught me how to navigate complex challenges, bring people together, and make decisions that truly benefit the community. I’m committed to maintaining fiscal responsibility, promoting economic development, and ensuring that property taxes remain affordable for every resident.
“Overall, my campaign is focused on finding practical, sustainable solutions to help Warren County thrive. By prioritizing economic growth, fiscal responsibility, and balanced land use policies, we can create a strong, vibrant future for all residents.” Stephanie Erickson said.
While stating that the “race is going well,” Stephanie Erickson called for voters to be engaged this November: “Your vote in this election will determine the kind of leadership Warren County has going forward, and I am ready to bring my experience and proven results to the role of County Supervisor. Together, we can build a strong future where Warren County continues to grow, thrive, and remain affordable for all its residents.”
