Last night was an exciting night as voters selected the candidates to represent their party. See who came out on top!
Iowa governor
Zach Lahn won the Republican nomination for Iowa governor. He secured 80,765 votes, or 37.8%. Lahn is a businessman who ran with an “Iowa First” slogan.
Despite a last minute endorsement from President Trump, Congressman Randy Feenstra came up just short with 79,113 (37%) votes.
Adam Steen came in third, with 31,087 votes, or 14.5% of the votes.
Brad Sherman and Eddie Andrews both finished well behind Steen.
Zach Lahn will go on to face State Auditor Rob Sand, who ran unopposed in the Democrat primary. Both parties desperately want control of Terrace Hill and it’s like that the fight is just beginning!
State Auditor
With current state auditor Rob Sand running for governor, Republicans have a chance to re-take the only statewide office controlled by a Democrat.
Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer defeated Abigail Maas to win the nomination.
U.S. Senate
In the race to replace Sen. Joni Ernst, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson defeated state senator Jim Carlin, by 153,179 votes (74.1%) to 53,403 votes (25.9%).
She will take on Josh Turek, who won the Democrat nomination.
Iowa Congressional District 1
Incumbent congresswoman Miller-Meeks defeated Dave Pautsch in the Republican primary. She will face a rematch against Democrat Christina Bohannan.
Iowa Senate District 11
Hollie Zajiceck won the Republican nomination for Iowa Senate District 11. Mandee Shriver came in second, followed by Jon Thorup.
All of this sets the stage for a fierce general election in November.
