Does Warren County Need a Traditional Marriage Parade?

Ottumwa recently hosted a Traditional Marriage Parade. Should Warren County cities follow their example?

Last Saturday, a Traditional Marriage Parade was celebrated in Ottumwa.

Travis Decker, one of the event’s organizers said, “Let’s represent our values to the community. Let’s encourage people that are married to stay with it and hang in there and be faithful to one another,”

KCCI reported on the event saying brides and grooms were expected to fill the city streets of Ottumwa.

Of course, the people that are normally outraged were outraged. Supporters of Pride (and other deadly sins) insisted that they did not feel represented by the parade. But after an entire month of parades celebrating the LGBTQ+ coalition, surely they can tolerate one event in a small Iowa town that honors traditional matrimony.

The fact is that traditional marriage has been the foundational institution of civilization for all of time. Without a man and a woman covenanting together in marriage, society would not exist. So it should be publicly celebrated and honored.

Maybe it’s time for communities in Warren County to follow Ottumwa’s example and host their own traditional marriage parade. This could be a positive and creative way to honor the institution that upholds all of civilization.
