The city of Norwalk is preparing for the largest annexation plan in its history. The proposal would expand the city by a third, adding 2,200 acres southwest of the town.
KCCI reported the news, quoting Mayor Tom Phillips as saying, “Our goal is to get a transportation corridor clear out to Interstate 35 and get an interchange built out there to provide alternate transportation in and out of the city into this industrial, commercial area that we’re building.”
The city has already begun a $7 million dollar sewer city project. Property taxes are not expected to increase dramatically since most of the annexed area is rural.
