Last year, Rob Keller won a second term on the Indianola Community School District school board. What does Keller’s re-election mean for Indianola students and for public education in Warren County?
The owner of COUNTRY Financial served as president of the board for four years. While remaining on the board, Keller stepped down as presdient to allow others the opportunity to serve. He continues to play a key role in Indianola’s public school system.
Additionally, Rob Keller leads the Indianola school district at a time when public schools throughout the nation are struggling to regain trust that waned during the pandemic. “It breaks my heart,” Keller said. “To hear about the waning trust of our nation’s public school system. I was educated in public schools and have chosen this route for my own son and it has been a very good experience for him.” He added, “I do believe public schools could find a way to better promote the great work being done by so many of our students and staff members that the public is not aware of.”
Furthermore, multiple controversies around the country made parental rights a national issue, sparking a conversation about the relationship between parents and educators. Keller sees parents as essential and complementary to the public school’s efforts.
Said Rob Keller, “Indianola Community School District champions parental involvement at all levels of their children’s education.” Calling parents “a child’s first and most important educator”, the school board member encouraged parents to actively engage the school system. “For far too long parental and community involvement in all schools, public and private, has been waning. A child’s teacher can only do so much to educate a child. The child must have the support of their parents and other important family members to be prepared and ready for learning each day.”
As public schools throughout the country continue to excite controversy, Rob Keller seeks to restore faith in Indianola’s school system. He sees cooperation between parents and educators as key to the success of Warren County’s next generation.
“I believe faith in our nation’s public schools can be restored with increased parental involvement and I champion all parents and community members to reach out to their neighborhood school to see where they might be able to assist.” He concluded, “If we can start looking for opportunities to serve inside and alongside our public schools, I believe the public’s trust will be regained and the children we serve will be adequately prepared for their next phase of life.”
