Hundreds showed up at the state capitol to protest the The Sex and Gender Clarity Act. The bill would reintroduce common sense to state law and protect women, children, employers, and religious organizations. But the woke left responded with hysteria.
See what’s really going on with the bill that sparked angry protests that led to arrests.

Originally labeled HSB 242, the bill was renumbered as HF583. The Senate version is filed as SF418.
The bill, which advanced out of the Iowa House Judiciary Committee on Monday, is based on a straightforward idea. Iowans should not be forced by the state to pretend that a man is a woman or a woman is a man.
The FAMILY LEADER said in a statement, “There are good reasons for our laws to protect women and children. And we shouldn’t force business owners, employers, or state agencies to implement policies that disregard the reality of biological sex.”
Samantha Fett, who represents Warren County residents in District 22, said the legislation is the “right move” that would allow Iowa to enact measures passed in previous years such as protecting women’s sports and locker rooms.

“Those protections are at risk, which is why this bill is important,” Fett said. “This bill is not about discrimination and was carefully crafted, and I want to make sure people understand that. But we’re going to have activists that try to use subterfuge to create false narratives.”
Rep. Fett’s prediction about activist subterfuge proved to be entirely correct.
The woke left, so used to having their radical ideas affirmed, responded to this legislation with hysteria. Hundreds protested at the capitol building. An annual homeschooling event had to be rescheduled due to the protests. The loud and angry protests even led to some arrests.
These manic protests demonstrate the deep divide in our state. There is a vocal portion of the population that cannot stand the idea of any authority above their own emotions – even nature, science, and biology. But worse than that, they demand the rest of society bow to their whims.
The General Assembly is responsible to not be bullied by the enraged left. Instead, they must do the right thing and bring sanity back to Iowa law. The Sex and Gender Clarity Act would restore a desperately needed dose of common sense to Iowa law.
