At the HyVee in Indianola, a dozen eggs can cost $6.99. What’s really going on with egg prices and when will we get some relief?

Some Democrats are looking to use the crisis to disparage President Trump. Twenty Democratic senators, including Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren, wrote a letter to the president demanding him to take some kind of action. What sort of action they expect him to take remains vague, though it seems to mostly include the federal government intruding into private businesses.
However, the egg crisis began well before Donald Trump’s inauguration and was caused by factors well outside the president’s purview.
The main culprit in rising egg prices is the bird flu. According to CBS, at least 148 million birds have been euthanized since H5N1, the current strain of bird flu, began spreading around the United States in 2022.
The bird flu has harmed many agricultural communities around the country, including in Warren County.
But when will the crisis end and egg prices begin to go down?
Unfortunately, there are no clear answers. Due to the unpredictable nature of the bird flu, it’s unclear how long the spread will continue to affect the bird population.
In the meantime, we will continue to endure high egg prices around the county, state, and nation.
