How does a person find himself moving grand pianos up staircases for a living? It’s a question one Milo resident is asked regularly.

Stephen Novak, the owner of Novak Piano Moving, is often asked how he entered such a unique industry. The company moves all sorts of large and heavy items, but specializes in piano moving. “We move pianos of course,” Novak said, “and specialty items such as hutches, antiques, or other bulky house pieces.”

But, Novak hasn’t always moved pianos for a living. He served in the military and worked in the security industry for many years. But when it came time to raise a family, he wanted to pursue a different career.

That’s when his brother-in-law, the owner of De Ford & Sons Pianos, voiced the need for a specialized piano moving service in the community. Novak recounted, “I currently was working at UnityPoint Health in Des Moines as a security officer and needed more income to raise a growing family, so this was a good opportunity.”

Since then, Novak Piano Moving has transported pianos all over the county and all over the country. With jobs that range from simple moves across town, to long haul trips across the United States, Stephen Novak has gained extensive experience moving pianos in all sorts of different situations.

But no matter how far the moves take him, Stephen Novak is always glad to come home to Warren County. He said, “I enjoy the freedom of the outdoors, scenery, seeing eagles fly, working with our property, gardening, cutting wood, and watching the seasons change in their beauty.”

Additionally, he appreciates that he’s able to promote his values in the county. “I also really enjoy being involved in and part of the Warren County Republican Committee,” Novak said. “I’ve been part of it for three years now.”

Novak Piano Moving is another business providing a great service to our community while promoting the values that we hold dear.
