Iowa’s Senator Joni Ernst will lead the DOGE Caucus, which aims to implement the recommendations of President-elect Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. The advisory board, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, will not have any enforcement authority and so legislative authority is vital to ensuring that the recommendations of DOGE are implemented.
DOGE is designed to eliminate waste in the federal government. Musk and Ramaswamy have already hinted at various bureaucratic spending that will be cut.
Joni Ernest will lead the Senate’s DOGE Caucus.
According to the senator’s official website:
“Iowans elected me with a mandate to cut Washington’s pork and make ‘em squeal! From billion-dollar boondoggles to welfare for politicians and trillion-dollar slush funds, my decade-long investigations have exposed levels of abuse that are almost too insane to believe,” said Ernst. “The tables are finally turning, the knives are out, and waste is on the chopping block. As President Trump, Elon Musk, and Vivek Ramaswamy prepare to take action, the Senate DOGE Caucus is ready to carry out critical oversight in Congress and use our legislative force to fight against the entrenched bureaucracy, trim the fat, and get Washington back to work for Americans.”
Additionally, the Senate DOGE Caucus promises to provide the legislative authority needed to implement whatever recommendations may come from the team of Musk and Ramaswamy. Ernst’s statement said that the Senate caucus will “serve as the ‘bite’ to partner with the ‘bark’ of [the] Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency.”
Joni Ernst famously ran for Senate on the pledge to “make ‘em squeal.” Conservatives are divided on how well she fulfilled that promise. Leading the Senate DOGE Caucus gives Sen. Ernst the opportunity to make good on her long standing oath to cut government waste.
