Republicans Win Locally Despite National Disappointment

Last night was largely disappointing for Republicans on a state and national level. However, despite the devastation of the blue wave, Warren County Republicans enjoyed key wins.

**HELP FIGHT BACK!!!**

On the surface, it might be hard for conservatives to find a silver lining from last night’s elections. Democrats gained control of both the United States Senate and House. Unfortunately, Iowa played a role in this flip. Democrat Josh Turek defeated Ashley Hinson and will replace Joni Ernst in the U.S. Senate. He will be the first Democrat Iowa has sent to the Senate since Tom Harkin.

Likewise, three of Iowa’s congressional districts flipped toward Democrats. This includes District One, which covers Warren County. In our district, Christina Bohannan defeated Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

On a statewide level, Democrats also achieved major gains. Rob Sand soundly defeated Republican Zach Lahn, meaning he will be the first Democrat governor in Iowa since Chet Culver. Likewise, Democrats captured key statewide offices such as attorney general.

In all that Democrat revelry, it might be hard for conservatives to see anything positive. But, on a local level, Warren County voters helped hold the line against the blue wave.

In Iowa Senate District 11, Hollie Zajiceck defeated Sinikka Waugh, keeping the Senate seat for Republicans.

Likewise, both House seats in Warren County remain red. In District 21, Brooke Boden won against Spencer Waugh. In District 22, Samantha Fett triumphed over Rory Taylor.

These victories helped keep both chambers of the Iowa legislature in Republican control. This means Rob Sand won’t have a free reign when he’s inaugurated as governor. He will have to contend with a Republican legislature.

Politics is a messy and turbulent business. The recent election proves the importance of local politics. By building strong local communities, we can help protect ourselves from liberal politicians in Des Moines and Washington.

Help keep our community conservative!
