Democrat Rory Taylor is trying to upset Representative Samantha Fett (again). He’s trying to use popular language to get elected. But what’s underneath his benign rhetoric?

**Support local election coverage**
Public schools
Democrat Rory Taylor: “Rural Schools are losing out to the school voucher program. I will fight for public school funding and stand up for our teachers, students, and parents”

Warren’s Voice’s translation: The unsubstantiated fearmongering about Iowa’s successful voucher program misses the point. Who’s in charge of your child’s education? You, the parent or guardian? Or government bureaucrats? Taylor’s policies would strip parents of authority and create a state-supported monopoly on education. This hurts all children, regardless of whether they go to public schools, private schools, or home schools.
Economic growth
Democrat Rory Taylor: “I will support programs that strengthen small farmers and establish policies that assure strong markets. Along with that, I support new farmers with educational programs. These programs support young farming families to help acquire land and equipment.
I support policies that improve our state’s economy. These policies also protect our natural resources. This makes Iowa a beautiful place to live.”

Warren’s Voice’s translation: These are safe talking points that all Iowans support in principle. Of course, everyone wants our state to grow and flourish. The problem for Mr. Taylor is that he’s up against an opponent in Rep. Fett who has already worked hard to pass legislation to benefit our state’s economy. Why should voters roll their dice with a new representative, when we already have a hardworking legislator getting things done for the local economy?

Healthcare
Democrat Rory Taylor: “I will fight against cuts that reduce access to quality medical services to all Iowans, especially in rural communities.”

Warren’s Voice’s translation: Here we have yet another risk-free slogan in which Rory Taylor champions something that all Iowans want, including his opponent. It’s unclear what exactly he’s proposing and how he would make the situation any better than it is.
In all of this, the Taylor campaign is hiding behind sparkly words and vanilla slogans. Iowa Democrats seem very reluctant to take any real stands on controversial issues or provide detailed policy proposals.
It’s fair for voters to ask why that is. Is it possible that if Democrats actually stated what they believe in plain English, most Iowa voters would refuse to vote for them? Are these superficial buzzwords masking a deeper, Leftist agenda?
