Was There A Bomb In Norwalk?

Officials responded to a possible bomb threat at the 500 block of Beardsley Street yesterday. Here’s what we know.

According to the City of Norwalk, officials were alerted to a suspicious package by a local resident. Responding officials located the package and identified a possible explosive device inside. Officers blocked off the area and coordinated with the Des Moines Police Department Bomb Squad.

The item inside the package was described as a “suspicious device with energetic materials”. The items were disassembled.

Officials state that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of the community.

The statement from Norwalk mayor Tom Philips asked residents to avoid speculation. It also noted that the investigation is still ongoing and therefore no further updates should be expected at this time.

The statement ended by thanking first responders, city staff, and community members for their quick actions and cooperation. It also asked for cooperation and understanding as the investigation continues.
