Indianola Names New Police Chief

The city announced today that Captain Rob Hawkins will be promoted to Indianola Police Chief. He has served as Interim Chief since September following the retirement of Brian Sher.

The city of Indianola released the following information about Rob Hawkins:

Captain Rob Hawkins, a 28-year law enforcement veteran, is currently serving as the interim police chief for the City of Indianola. Hawkins began his career in 1997 with the Pella Police Department in Pella, Iowa, before joining the Indianola Police Department in 2000.

Over the years, he has served in various roles, including police officer, drug task force officer, general crimes detective, sergeant, patrol lieutenant and captain. Hawkins has led several key initiatives within the department, including the implementation of body-worn cameras, the launch of the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) drone program, the development of the school resource officer program and the expansion of the department’s social media presence.

Hawkins holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from American Military University and a master’s degree in criminal justice with a focus on public administration from Liberty University. He is also a retired member of the Iowa Army National Guard, where he served for 22 years and completed five overseas deployments in support of Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Hawkins will be sworn in at the Indianola City Council meeting on December 15.
