Thanksgiving is pro-colonization
The origins of Thanksgiving are rooted in America’s colonial past. For centuries, the stories of Pilgrims fleeing religious persecution to carve a new nation out of the wilderness with the aid of befriended Indians was treasured by Americans from all backgrounds as a part of our noble heritage.
But in recent years, anti-Americans have told us that this beautiful story of perseverance and courage is actually something to be ashamed of. There are people who insist that the United States was built on violent bloodshed, oppression, and land-theft. And the images of Pilgrims and Indians sharing a feast together does not fit that simple, genocidal narrative. As such, they need to erase it from our collective memory.

But the truth is that the establishment of the United States was one of the best things that ever happened to North America. Despite all its sins and problems, the conquest of North America by the United States was a net positive for the entire world. It ended centuries of tribal warfare and established peace and freedom over an entire continent. All Americans should be honored to have such brave, stalwart forebearers as the settlers of Plymouth.
Thanksgiving is pro-America
Perhaps no holiday is as classically American as Thanksgiving. From the apple pie, to the mashed potatoes, to the football, to family gathered around a table, the holiday is thick with American iconography.

It’s deeply rooted in our history. From its origins in our colonial past, to George Washington’s thanksgiving proclamation, to the holiday’s standardization during the Civil War, Thanksgiving is poured over and baked into American history like gravy over turkey.
Thanksgiving and American culture are tied together. You can’t celebrate one without celebrating the other. You can’t despise the one without despising the other. That’s why so many on the Left hate Thanksgiving. But that’s also why anyone who appreciates our heritage should enthusiastically enjoy Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is pro-Christianity
G.K. Chesterton, himself an atheist for many years, once said, “The worst moment for an atheist is when he is really thankful and has no one to thank.”
The existence of a holiday called Thanksgiving raises all sorts of awkward questions. To whom exactly are we thankful? Why do we owe Him thanksgiving? Do we owe Him anything else?
These are questions many would prefer not to answer. And so it’s easier to just ignore the holiday that prompted all these uncomfortable questions.
But the Christian does not have this dilemma. If you are trusting in the Lord Jesus to save you from your sins, you always have a reason to be thankful! You know to whom you owe your thanks and are glad to give it.
Conclusion
While some may not appreciate Thanksgiving, there’s no reason we shouldn’t! Thanksgiving is a festive celebration of our Union’s heritage. It’s also an incredible opportunity to give thanks to the Triune God who gives every good and perfect gift.
