Even as Iowans await the official announcement that Gov. Kim Reynolds will seek re-election, one Republican has already announced his candidacy. Who is it? What does it mean for Iowa Republicans?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brad Sherman<\/a> has announced that he will run for governor. He is an ordained pastor and former Iowa state representative. His campaign website <\/a>lists fundamental rights, the economy, medical freedom, and constitutional adherence as among his key issues. It appears that Sherman will attempt to position himself to the right of the current governor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gov. Reynolds has not officially announced that she will run to retain her office. However, she has reported <\/a>raising $1.8 million last year. In contrast, Brad Sherman reportedly <\/a>only has $8,000 cash on hand for his campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, State Auditor Rob Sand raised <\/a>$8 million in 2024, contributing to speculation that he will seek to represent the Democratic Party in the gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assuming Kim Reynolds runs for re-election, Iowa Republicans will have a choice between giving their current governor a third full term or giving another conservative an opportunity to lead the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Republican primary will be held on June 2, 2026. The general election will be held on November 3, 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
