Chris Cournoyer was a state senator from Le Claire and is now the 48th lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does the lieutenant governor do?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The role of Lieutenant Governor is not statutorily defined in the Iowa Code; under the Iowa Constitution, the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa performs those duties assigned to the Lieutenant Governor by the Governor.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In Iowa, the lieutenant governor is largely ceremonial. In the event that Gov. Reynolds leaves office prior to the end of her term, Cournoyer would succeed her as governor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
