A new report shows that abortions are down nearly 40% in Iowa since the state\u2019s heartbeat bill took effect in July. The report highlights progress made but also illustrates the need for further action.

The report <\/a>was issued by the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion policy organization that supposedly advances \u201csexual and reproductive health and rights.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isaac Maddow-Zimet, Guttmacher Institute data scientist and project lead, stated<\/a>, \u201cIowa is the latest state to demonstrate the devastating impact that six-week bans have on abortion access.\u201d Of course, the real \u201cdevastating impact\u201d of Iowa\u2019s law is that more children are allowed to live in the womb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KCCI summarized the report, saying<\/a>, \u201cThe data shows before the six-week abortion ban, Iowa had an average of 400 abortions a month. After the law took effect, that dropped by 38% to an estimated 250 abortions in August.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the report was used by the Guttmacher Institute to sow fear and rally anti-life support, their data appears to be accurate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This report demonstrates the positive impact that Iowa\u2019s heartbeat law has had for the unborn in Iowa. A 38% decrease in abortion is a significant pro-life victory and should be celebrated as a major gain in our state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the report also reveals the work that still needs to be done. The fact that \u201conly\u201d 250 babies are legally murdered each month in our state is a very sad reflection on our society\u2019s moral climate.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guttmacher Institute report serves as both a sign of hope and a call to action for the pro-life movement in Iowa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
