In 2020, Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, winning the race by just six votes. Now, the congresswoman is fighting, not only to keep Iowa\u2019s First District red, but to maintain Republican control of the U.S. House at this crucial moment in our nation\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The incumbent Republican congresswoman faces former state representative Christina Bohannan. Miller-Meeks defeated Bohannan in 2022, receiving just over 53% of the vote. But Bohannan has demanded a rematch in 2024, this time with an infusion of money from key Democrat donors who see District 1 as key to wresting control of the U.S. House. A Democrat-associated super PAC recently announced <\/a>that it was pouring $2.25 million dollars into TV ads for the Bohannan campaign. This comes as the Cook Political Report has moved <\/a>Iowa\u2019s First District from \u201cLikely Republican\u201d to \u201cLean Republican\u201d. Democrats see this as an opportunity to flip the district that includes Warren County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An individual familiar with the district said, \u201cDistrict 1 is an extremely competitive district for a Republican to hold with the inclusion of Johnson County. This seat is considered a \u2018bellwether\u2019, an indicator for how Republicans are going to perform this November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potentially at stake, is control of the U.S. House. Control of the House will be key, regardless of who wins the presidential election. If Trump retakes the presidency, he will need a cooperative House of Representatives to enact his agenda. But if he loses, a Republican House must be a crucial check and balance against the Harris-Walz attempt to push the nation even farther to the left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
